Art Journal Page using Stampin' Up supplies

Hey guys!  you all know how I love love love to create art journal pages.  For those of you that don't, journal an Art Journal is something you do just for yourself!!  It can be anything and everything! Just image playing with paints, inks sprays dies stencils and just letting yourself do whatever your imagination can come up with.  There is no right or wrong.

This page was done using almost all stampin'up supplies.  The LACE and the SATIN FLOWERS were purchased.  I mixed my own colors using reinkers and glimmer paint for the background.

Here is a closer look:

I cut the corset from a free hand sketch.  And that was just part of the fun.  Size of my journal pages are 9 x 12 but you can use any size paper you wish.  This one is actually the cardboard piece that comes on the back of designer paper packs cut to size.  It was sturdy enough to hold up to my 'playing'.

The quote....  Happiness is that sublime moment when you get out of your corset at night...Joyce Grenfelt...was found online with a google search for corset quotes. I typed it on computer, printed out, tore around it and distressed it.

Hope you like it as much as I do!! I'll be happy to answer any questions.

FB cover photo

Good afternoon! This is Adriane, back again for one last post before Claudia is back in charge :) I know we all can't wait to hear about her trip!!

I only thought nothing could be easier than the card I created last week using a digital kit...then I created this Facebook cover photo. The background paper is from the Beau Chateau kit, design #1. When I added it as a background paper I was not able to shift and determine which part of the sheet I wanted in my cover photo so I added a 1.25 square punch and made it the same size as my document. I then added the DSP I selected and was able to slide the paper around until it was showing exactly what I wanted. I also zoomed out because remember this is a tiny custom sized space I'm working with. This portion of the paper I selected is absolutely beautiful and technically I could have left it like that and been done :)..but I had to add a little something extra since I'm blogging about this design and don't want to keep it THAT simple :) this is a good example of how simple you can keep things with MDS but you always have the option to dress it up even more. I added a butterfly punch 1 shape and sized it how I wanted and did a paper fill and selected another DSP from the same kit but used design # 12. If you double click on the butterfly you can zoom the paper in and out and also move the paper around until the part of the design you want is showing. I did this and added a mat to outline the butterfly in a pink I selected from the background paper. I copied and pasted another butterfly so it was the same exact thing and I moved it to the other side. Well, it really was THAT easy! Isn't it so pretty though?? :)

Psst....I've got a secret.

You want to know what it is? Stampin' Up! has a Spanish language catalog that we all can shop in! That is where I found the "Cinco de Mayo" stamp set that I used for today's project.

For this post I really wanted to share the catalog as a resource rather than focus on a particular technique. Thank you Claudia for aligning the stars so I could do just that!

I began requesting the "Celebrando Creatividad" so that I could send cards to my family that speaks Spanish. What I found is that often there are stamp images in the Spanish catalog that are not in the big catalog!! The "CC" catalog is also a great resource for holiday cards. You can easily slip in a "Noel" for a "Merry Christmas". So now you know my secret.

You "Pined" it, now what are you going to do with it?

We've all done it. Scrolled through the endless "pins" of creative delights. Telling ourselves "Ooo! I want to make that card." We'll then... Lets do just that!

Hi, I am Theresa and I am a member of Claudia's second Monday class. A big thanks goes out to Claudia for letting her club members post while she enjoys her well deserved trip to Fiji!

Of all my "pins" on my Creative Inspiration board, this card is the one I have wanted to re-create the most. So many if its elements lend themselves to SU! style.

Now here is my take on this card. First thing I knew I wanted to do was add the Melon Mambo background. Because that is what Claudia taught me to do with an all white card. :-). But before I attached the card to the background I stamp the repeating verse. I used the SU! grid paper as a guide. Finally I stamped the flowers and butterfly. The butterfly also has a pearl accent.

The following stamp sets where used: A Word For You; Best of Butterflies; and With All My Heart.

Now it's your turn to take inspiration and make it real!

Stamping Any Which Way You Want

Hi, Everyone. I'm Joy from Claudia's Tuesday Night Group. One of the things I love about stamping is that it can be whatever you want it to be. You can do simple cards and layouts or embellish everything to your heart's content. It's all good :-)
For this card I went the simple route. I used watercolor crayons (I love crayons, don't you?), reinkers, a circle punch for the faux scallop border and an embossing folder. I know the stamp I used is retired, but it is such a wonderful image, I can't let it go.

And Now For Something Completely Different (I just love Monty Python!)-

Crafting with Claudia (catchy phrase, don't ya think?) has led me to other forms of creating. Recently I started an art journal (visual diary). SU! has great items for art journaling. The newspaper DSP and distress kit are fabulous to create an old book feel. I also used MDS to create the woman ("All in the Family" brush set). I printed several images on Natural White (holds up better when using water and reinkers) with blank faces. This way I can choose the expression that fits best for what I'm journaling. The example is from a sad day, but there are plenty of happy day pages too! This page shows the DSP and the distress inks best. The rich blues are the Azul ink.

Well that's it for today. I've enjoyed sharing with you. Thanks, Claudia!

Claudia returns for the next post. I know she will have great ideas from the convention to inspire us.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Crafting!

"There are no mistakes, just creative opportunities."

Theresa here, Monday night club member. One of my favorite stamp techniques involves layering stamped images. It embodies my creative motto, "there are no mistakes, just creative opportunities".

Supplies include; one piece of card stock; copy paper, liquid glue (optional), two sponges or daubers, 2 plus ink pads and your favorite stamp set. For this project I suggest a light color card stock. I prefer Vanilla CS.

Cut and fold your card stock into your finish card. Fold your copy paper in half and then in half again. Tear out the center of the copy paper and unfold. Place on top of your card stock and center. The copy paper is thin enough to see thru and center on card stock. You may want to use some liquid glue on the copy paper to keep it in place.

Using your lightest ink first daub ink around the torn edges of the copy paper. The copy paper with the torn center is a template for creating a subtle background of color. Moving lightly into the center. You can make it as light or as dark as you like. Using the next darker ink daub around the edges of the torn paper. Once finished with the background remove the copy paper template and save for another time.

For this card I used the French Foliage stamp set. I also used inks from the Regal Collection. The placement and colors used for the images was purely random and unplanned. I like using the "Kiss" and "Rock n roll" techniques on the images. It adds texture.

This is a great card when you need something quick or general. Of course you could kick it up a bit by adding layers of card stock or embossing just one of the images. Whatever you do you can't go wrong!

Thank you Claudia for letting us share our favorite stamping projects with your blog family.

"Someday" projects

Hi! I'm Sherri, a member of the Monday night club. I have been stamping with Claudia since 2005ish. Many years ago, Claudia presented a scrapbook project with the "summer sketches" simply scrappin' scrapbooking kit. We completed a 6x6 scrapbook, several greeting cards and still had leftovers for more projects. My plan was to use the scrapbook for vacation photos at the beach. Like many plans, that one never saw the light of day. But --- I still had a completed summery scrapbook for "someday."
One evening, Claudia showed me a recipe book project. She was using the 6x6 scrapbook and she and her demonstrators added to the recipes whenever they had a meeting. How cute -- recipes with Stampin Up decorations!! So my new project was to convert my summery scrapbook to a summery drink recipe book. Another "someday" project. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted the book to have cocktail-type pictures rather than beach scenes, so "someday" was still not happening.
Then Claudia introduced the blog idea -- a way to make a commitment so "someday" would finally arrive. I took out the scrapbook and started with the cover:
This project is from the club projects of May 2009. I adjusted the size of a greeting card to better fit the cover of the scrapbook. The stamp set is Cheers to You and the card stock colors are Riding Hood Red, Baja Breeze, Pink Pirouette, Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango and shimmery white.
Now, "someday" was on a roll so I decided to complete my first recipe page:
This was adapted from one of my favorite club projects, from August 2008. In the club project, Claudia stamped the greeting on the cup. I wanted to print the recipe on the cup. What a challenge! My printer would not print on the vellum card stock and I wanted the vellum, as it looked just like a fancy plastic cup. So I printed the recipe on plain white paper and taped it to the back of the vellum after sponging the right side of the vellum with real red ink. In addition to real red, I used green galore and whisper white card stock. The limes are from the Tart and Tangy stamp set.
I have lots of ideas now and can't wait to add more pages to my "new" recipe book! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to get moving!

Journeys.........

My name is Nance' Seifert and I am one of Claudia's Stamp Club members. I am honored to be a guest blogger for Claudia while she on her journey at the Stampin' Up! Convention. To kick off our journey here, I made a card using one of my favorite stamp sets, "The Open Sea". I have loved clipper ships since I was very young. I watched while my dad built a model of one. He eventually agreed to let me help. These majestic maidens of the sea have been special to me ever since.

The base for the card is Night of Navy card stock. The background is Bordering Blue cs stamped with the journal image from the set, using Night of Navy ink. The trim underneath the image layer is a small strip of "Travel Journal" DSP which I ran through the crimper and adhered to Night of Navy cs. I adhered the trim to the background and adhered the background to the card.

The ship is from "The Open Sea" digital kit. I needed a ship that was much larger than the rubber stamp. I enlarged it in "My Digital Studio" and printed it on the script writing paper from "Presto Patterns" DSP. I printed the compass on Whisper White, but reduced the size so it could be used as a small embellishement. Night of Navy was sponged for the ocean, Bashful Blue was sponged for the sky and Creamy Caramel was sponged for the sails. I used a Close to Cocoa marker to color in the ship. The edges were lightly sponged with Night of Navy.

Night of Navy cs was used for the mat under the ship. The edges of the mat were distressed. The corners of the image and mat were punched with the ticket punch. The image was then adhered to the cs. The greeting is from the "Pedaling Past" stamp set, stamped in Night of Navy and punched out with the Decorative Label punch. The edges were sponged with Night of Navy. The greeting was adhered to the background. Dimensionals were added to the matted image and it was placed on the card.

The compass was punched out with a small circle punch ( I used the center of the large cog on the Cog Punch). The edges were sponged with Night of Navy ink and a very small rhinestone was added to the center. The compass was placed on the card using 2 mini glue dots double stacked so it would be raised up a bit.

All the while making this card, I was thinking about the trip that Claudia was going to be taking. This next card came to me while I was making the other one. I had to make it for her.

In a nutshell, the backgroud DSP (Travel Journal) was printed in My Digital Studio. The State of Utah was cut with the Cricut (black for Stampin' Up!), stamped with Very Vanilla craft ink using the "Sanded" background stamp. A rhinestone was placed on the location of Stampin' Up!(hard to see in the picture). The plane is from the "Plane & Simple" Stamp set. Not quite Navy and Pumpkin pie were the card stock and ink colors used. I think you can figure out the rest.

This is just the beginning of our journey together. I hope you have enjoyed!
